What are the news agencies from which Yahoo! gets it content?
Question by Chris M: What are the news agencies from which Yahoo! gets it content?
Is there a comprehensive list somewhere that is viewable by the public. To my knowledge, there are no journalists or reporters that work directly for Yahoo! except for Kevin Sites…
So how is the relationship between these agencies and Yahoo! struck? Does Yahoo! simply pay for each article or video clip? Or do they trade services? It would be illegal for me to simply republish an article written by an AP writer, so how does Yahoo! acquire its news content?
And who is the editor of Yahoo! News? Who decides which articles are placed on the main front page of Yahoo!?
I have seen Yahoo!’s news content provided by CNN, ABC News, the AP, Reuters, Agence France Presse, USA Today, National Public Radio, among others.
Thanks for your answers! This is important to me.

Actually this has been the subject of some contraversy lately. Because alot of Search Engines link to various news sites or simply copy and paste the material from actual news agencies. The various agencies were talking about having sites like Yahoo and others pay a fee for linking such media. Because their journalists are doing the leg work and alot of times not receiving any payment for an article that becomes very popular on websites.
I was trying to find the article they had in yahoo news about a month ago on this topic, sorry.

Yahoo! pays for content from news agencies. The payment may be a flat sum, or it might be a share of the revenue they make from the ads shown on the site. There is a list on the site (see below).
You are correct that the only reporter that Yahoo employs is Kevin Sites. But Yahoo news actually has a staff of journalists working for it. Some negotiate the contracts with the news agencies. Others pick which stories are highlighted on the home page. Others pick the links that are accumulated in the “Full Coverage” section and appear at the bottom of news agency stories. I haven’t seen the names of the all the editors listed anywhere, but the head of Yahoo! News is Neil Budde.
The controversy about search engines (ie Google) creating news pages without paying for the actual content does not apply, because Yahoo does pay.
